fIVE UNDER TEN YOUNG ALUMNI RECOGNITION

This award is bestowed annually to five recent U of M graduates for their professional achievements and/or contributions to the community-at-large. These young alumni symbolize the hope we all hold for our future.  In recognizing them, we encourage their continued success in their careers and outreach activities.

In order to be recognized for the “Five Under Ten” award, nominees MUST HAVE an UNDERGRADUATE degree awarded between 2008-2017

the making a difference (M.A.D.) alumni recognition Award

The Making A Difference (M.A. D.) award has been bestowed annually since 2015. It honors alumni who have made significant contributions to their community and/or in their career by sharing their time, talents and actionable dedication to their fields of expertise and areas of passion. In the past, the award has highlighted the accomplishments of UMBA in the areas of Law, Education, Social Action and the Arts, but is open to nominations in any field. ow that our black alumni are truly apart of the Michigan difference by affecting change. 

In order to be recognized for the “M.A.D” award, nominees MUST BE  recognized as a graduate from any school, college or division of the University of Michigan. Undergraduate, Graduate or Doctoral degrees are all accepted.

Nominees for the Making A Difference Award must meet all three (3) of the listed requirements:

1.) Graduate from any school, college or division of the University of Michigan  
2.) Has made significant contributions to their community
3. ) Deserves acknowledgement as embodying the spirit of distinction that brings pride to the University of Michigan Black Alumni

Dr. Leonard F. Sain was one of the earliest and foremost African American educators in Michigan. He has a historically significant career as one of the first African Americans in the field of educational administration in the Detroit Public School system. Dr. Sain was an educator and a leader, who left a legacy of human service and achievement.

The Leonard F. Sain Esteemed Alumni Award is given each year to someone who, like Dr. Sain, has shown outstanding achievements and service in their field of human endeavor.

All nominees must exhibit the listed characteristics & accomplishments:

1 .) Attended at the University of Michigan for at least one semester                          
2.) Demonstrated extraordinary interest and/or commitment to Black students at the University through outreach efforts, recruitment or supportive interest over a number of years 

3.) Exhibited distinguished service or accomplishment in any field of human endeavor 

4.) Provided unusual and singular contributions to the development of the cultural and/or spiritual life of any community
